Many nonprofits do a logo refresh and think they’re done. Branding is a living, breathing part of your organization. As your programs evolve, your messaging should too.


Fix: Treat branding as an ongoing process. Schedule regular check-ins to update your visuals, messaging, and tone so they stay fresh and relevant.


2. Inconsistent Visual Identity Across Channels

It’s common to see one color palette on a nonprofit’s website, another on flyers, and yet another on social media. This dilutes your impact and makes you less memorable.


Fix: Develop a simple style guide covering colors, fonts, photo style, and logo usage. Share it with everyone creating materials so your look stays consistent.


3. Leading with Programs Instead of People

Nonprofits often highlight services but forget the human story. People connect with faces, names, and impact stories — not bullet points.

4. Overcomplicating the Message

Branding isn’t just your logo and website — it’s every interaction people have with your organization. If donation pages are clunky or emails feel impersonal, supporters won’t stick around.


Fix: Audit your touchpoints: donation forms, event registrations, thank-you notes. Make sure each one reflects your values and feels like part of the same warm, welcoming brand.
